Informed sources reported that the U.S. Treasury is planning to sell its shares in about two-thirds of the remaining banks that received government bailout funds during the financial crisis.

"Wall Street Journal" newspaper stated that The Treasury hopes to sell all its shares in the banks that have received bailout funds next year, including institutions that did not pay dividends payable to the government. The government still owns shares in 218 banks.
The source told the newspaper that the bank rescue program will shrink significantly in 2013.
